Greggs on tour
Greggs is set to open its first store outside of the UK as the infamous chain bakery embarks on it’s first foray outside of the UK.
If national treasures came in sausage roll form, Greggs would surely be number one on that list as a store engrained in the British hivemind subconscious.
The only downside one can could say about Greggs is that they only exist in the UK!
Well, don’t fret, because Greggs are expanding their horizons to beyond our shores and to the one place where the chain is guaranteed to thrive.
Yep, where else would anyone sane of mind open in a new Greggs store outside of the UK?
British staples such as sausage rolls, bacon butties and steak bakes will soon be available in Tenerife Airport for weary Brits to get a quick-revive.
Greggs announced the news in a press release that confirmed the expansion.
They wrote: “We’ve packed all of the essentials: delicious flavours, freshly prepared food and the familiar feeling of your flakey favourites served fresh.
“There’ll also be a host of brand-new items available, too. From the dazzingly delicious Blueberry Muffin and Spanish Omelette Breakfast Roll to freshly squeezed orange juice – it’s the Greggs you know and love, just with a sun-soaked twist.
“Plus, with the most affordable breakfast deal across the entire airport served until midday, we’ll soften the blow of that bittersweet journey home.
“Skip the duty free and novelty fridge magnets – bring home the souvenir of a Sausage Roll baked in Spain.”
Greggs have been making big moves lately
It comes after the beloved sausage roll made its debut in the sky.
Earlier this year, Greggs launched a collaboration with EasyJet to offer their famed baked treat for a limited time.
To celebrate EasyJet’s new base at Newcastle Airport back in March, Greggs gave travellers the chance to fly in true Geordie style with a sausage roll in hand.
EasyJet and easyJet holidays teamed up with the bakery chain to create some dips with new flavours inspired by the airline’s holiday destinations.
The flavours included a spin on the French classic Tarte Tatin, an original twist on the much-loved Spanish Sangria as well as a Kebab-inspired flavour that delivers a taste of Turkey.
Greggs in a vending machine?!
Greggs is known for its innovation – from the vegan sausage roll to its recent launch of a matcha range, the bakery is pretty iconic.
The chain is due to launch vending machines, following the success of its recent ‘bitesize shops’ launch.
These ‘bitesize shops’ are smaller stores which offer a reduced range of Greggs delights.
The team at Greggs said they are looking to move into ‘unattended retail solutions’. In other words, vending machines.
The CFO of Greggs, Richard Hutton, confirmed the move, saying “both automated and manual vending solutions.”
It’s yet to be revealed where the vending machines will be, but the CFO said there is “significant growth opportunity in underrepresented catchments” with the vending solutions.
However, he did say that we can expect to see these ‘very shortly’.
