Fans have made their claim known.
Remarkably, over 1 million Real Madrid fans have signed a petition for star striker Kylian Mbappe to leave the club.
Despite playing some of his best football this campaign, it has been a far from ideal season for Los Blancos, falling 11 points behind Barcelona in La Liga and crashing out of the Champions League to Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich.
Xabi Alonso barely made it past the New Year before a harsh sacking, and Alvaro Arbeloa hasn’t been able to secure your typical new manager bounce.
Though Real won’t be securing glory this season, Mbappe has still scored the goals. With 41 in 41 appearances, alongside six assists, it makes you wonder why do fans want him gone? We find out.
‘Losing the locker room’
As per major Spanish outlet MARCA, Real’s team-mates are reportedly tired of the superstar’s “antics”.
The Frenchman has reportedly ‘grown apart from the team’ with his attitude towards staff not being great.
Injuries play a part too. He has missed a dozen games this campaign, mostly due to a persistent knee injury. During this time, he has made trips to Paris and Italy, not impressing fans in the slightest.
The Athletic also reported a training ground row. Mbappe insulted a coach in a bust-up on the training ground, as well as having a row with senior teammate Antonio Rudiger.
Over a million Madridistas have now signed the petition to get the player out of the club, which can be seen here.
The demand was loud and clear: ‘Madridistas, make your voice heard. If you believe change is needed, don’t stay silent — sign this petition and stand for what you think is best for the club’s future.‘
Fans also voiced their frustrations to the superstar online, including Madrid’s ‘improved form’ without the player.
