An approach has already been made for the Reds manager…
Premier League champions Liverpool may have a straightforward escape route if they plan to part with head coach Arne Slot this summer.
After leading the Reds to only their second ever Premier League title last season, the current campaign has been an unmitigated disaster for Slot and Liverpool.
Following moves to strengthen their lineup with £400 million worth of summer signings, the Merseyside outfit have performed well below last season’s aveage, and look set to barely scrape into Champions League qualification, aided by rivals Chelsea and Aston Villa, both of whom have endured declines in form over the past few weeks.

Slot’s Liverpool haven’t fared any better in the season’s other competitions.
Their Champions League campaign came to a conclusion at the hands of PSG, for the second successive year, and in the FA Cup they were hammered 4-0 by Manchester City in the quarter-finals.
If the club are interested in making a managerial change this summer, they could be aided by one of European football’s biggest clubs, according to a report in the Dutch press.
As per journalist Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf, quoted here by VP News, Dutch giants Ajax have made enquiries about Arne Slot’s future, regarding an upcoming managerial vacancy at the club.
Ajax’s technical director Jordi Cruijff is said to have sounded out the chances of Slot returning to his home country to manage in the Erevidisie again.
The reporter has said: “I was told once again that they [Ajax] also inquired about Arne Slot.”
It seems as though Slot has rebuffed Ajax’s best efforts for the time being.
Verweij adds: “Slot is still very firmly in the saddle; he is simply continuing at Liverpool. I also understood that Arne Slot is not very keen to go to Ajax at this point in his career,” and, despite a disappointing campaign so far, it seems that the Anfield hierarchy seem content with sticking with Slot for the foreseeable future.
Are Liverpool likely to sack Arne Slot?
According to Sky Sports, the Liverpool hierarchy mean to look past that the pressure on Slot, allowing him on continue at Anfield into next season.
This comes as a result of the rallying at Liverpool over the past month, in which they’ve managed to make themselves favourites to secure a Champions League qualification place.
Due to the English league’s positive European co-efficient, the Premier League will now have five UCL qualification places, and the Reds are clear favourites to finish either 4th or 5th at the end of the current campaign.
So long as Liverpool maintain their position over the final few matchweeks, it seems clear that Slot will stay on as manager.
What are pundits and Liverpool fans saying about Arne Slot?
After a 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, there has been widespread discussion regarding whether Slot is the right figure to be leading Liverpool forward.
The Athletic’s Liverpool reporter James Pearce reminded fans that, on review, the club’s 2025/26 season makes for “grim reading.”
The Old Trafford result marked an 18th defeat for the season, and saw the club lose home and away fixtures to both Manchester clubs for the first time since 1913.
Supporters have more widely called on the club to make a change this summer, with the below tweet saying as much.
Others however, have suggested that the £400 million summer spending may have appeared more flattering than reality, with more investment in defensive and forward areas still required.
CBS sports writer James Benge points to the fact that Virgil van Dijk, 35, has played a major role for the Reds despite his advanced age. Mo Salah would be another strong example.
In light of this context, and with the good feeling from last year still firmly in frame, it still seems more likely that Arne Slot stays on as Liverpool manager than he begins the next campaign with Ajax.
