Football superstar Lionel Messi has agreed a deal to buy a complete 100% stake in a Spanish football club, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano.

Now aged 38, the Argentine is playing in the twilight years of a truly historic playing career, and clearly has one eye on life beyond professional football.

Ahead of this summer’s World Cup finals, almost certainly Messi’s last as a player, the former Barcelona and PSG forward has agreed a deal to become the owner of a football club.

As revealed by Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Lionel Messi has purchased a 100% stake within Spanish 3rd division outfit UE Cornellia.

The deal is believed to be a commitment that the Barcelona legend intends to maintain a close relationship with the area of Catalonia, despite no longer living in Europe.

Through his role as owner, it is now expected that Messi will begin to invest in the next generation of Catalan players.

Cornellia play in the Tercera RFEF division and have a proud history of developing some of Spain’s best players.

Players including David Raya, Jordi Alba, Gerard Martin, and Keita Balde have all represented the club over the past few decades, and Messi is hoping to help foster the next generation of exciting new Spanish footballers.

Further details regarding the exact role Messi will take up within the day-to-day running of UE Cornellia are expected to be announced soon.
