Maguire will miss the club’s clash with Chelsea

Manchester United will be without defender Harry Maguire ahead of this weekend’s clash with Chelsea, following news his FA misconduct charge is set to be upheld, according to The Athletic.

Per the outlet’s report: “The England central defender is being given a one-game ban and a fine after the FA ruled he swore at fourth official Matt Donohue following his red card at Bournemouth.”

During the Bournemouth game, the 33-year-old was shown a red card when referee Stuart Atwell ruled the defender had denied an obvious goalscoring opportunity to Cherries’ forward Evanilson.

It is in the aftermath of the sending off, Maguire is alleged to have sworn at an official.

At the start of the month, the FA initially charged Maguire for using “insulting words” towards the Premier League fourth official.

In a statement they said: “It is alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official following his dismissal.”

That charge has now reportedly been upheld by the FA, meaning Maguire will now miss the game against Chelsea.

Maguire’s suspension comes after the Red Devils’ other first choice for the position — Lisandro Martinez — has hit with a three match ban for his red card in the defeat to Leeds.

The result: despite having almost everyone fit, Manchester United will have to play the relatively inexperienced duo of Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro in defence against Chelsea.
