Foreign Office tells Brits to ‘leave’ two countries in new warning

New advice has been issued

The Foreign Office has issued a warning to Brits in two countries amid the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East.

Since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran last week, there has been increasing worry about the status of Brits in the region.

In new advice published on their website, the Foreign Office has told Brits to ‘leave’ two countries if it is safe to do so.

The new guidance recommends Brits in Israel and Palestine leave if possible.

“If you judge it is safe to do so and plan to use commercial options to depart check for the latest updates from your airline or tour operator, as well as the instructions of local authorities and the status of any border crossings before you travel,” the FCDO said.

“Make sure you have access to emergency supplies and essential medication. Travel within or out of Israel is at your own risk. Commercial travel options are still available even while Israeli airspace remains closed.”

“For those eligible to travel to Egypt via Taba border crossing, transport services continue to operate from major cities to Eilat. You can check ‘entry requirements’ below. The primary Israeli public transport service is Egged.

“There are regular buses to Eilat which you can book online. You can also download the app ‘Moovit’ for details of public transport (including from Eilat to Taba border crossing), or ‘Gett’ to book private taxis.

“Make sure you have access to emergency supplies and essential medication. Travel within or out of Israel is at your own risk.”

The FCDO tells Brits to ensure that their travel documents are up to date, including visas and anything required for onwards travel.

British nationals who entered Israel on a B2 tourist visa are eligible for the shuttle buses from Jerusalem and Tel Aviv to the Taba border (Egypt), which are provided by the Israeli Ministry of Tourism. You can register for this service online, as per the FCDO website.

However, British Nationals who are resident in Israel or are dual Israeli nationals are not eligible for the service.

A team from the British Embassy is  present on the Egyptian side of the Taba border, and are there to assist Brits with onwards travel to Sharm El-Sheikh Airport.
