Lord Mandelson released on bail after arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office

Lord Mandelson has been released on bail after being arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office yesterday.

The Met Police released as statement last night after the arrest.

In a statement they wrote: “Officers have arrested a 72-year-old man on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

“He was arrested at an address in Camden on Monday, 23 February and has been taken to a London police station for interview.

“This follows search warrants at two addresses in the Wiltshire and Camden areas.”

According to the BBC, Mandelson was led away from his home in Camden, north London, by police.

Now, early this morning, it was confirmed that Mandelson has been released on bail.

In a statement issued just after 2am on Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “A 72-year-old man arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office has been released on bail pending further investigation.

“He was arrested at an address in Camden on Monday, 23 February and was taken to a London police station for interview.

“This follows search warrants at two addresses in the Wiltshire and Camden areas.

“We are not able to provide further information at this stage to prevent prejudicing the integrity of the investigation.”

The former ambassador to the US was seen returning to his home at around 2am this morning (Tue, 24 Feb).

Earlier this month, the Metropolitan Police announced that they had launched an investigation over allegations in public office.

The news comes just days after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formally Prince Andrew, was arrested on suspicion of the same offence.

Neither Andrew or Lord Mandelson have commented so far.
