BBC radio legend Andy Kershaw has died aged 66.
The news of the death of the former BBC Radio 1 DJ and Live Aid presenter was confirmed by his family and reported by the BBC.
His family said he died around 19:30 BST on Thursday.
It was announced in January that the DJ had been diagnosed with cancer and could not walk.
The broadcaster is well remembered by many for his long 15-year stint on Radio 1 from 1985.
He was “known for his eclectic taste and for helping champion world music”, the BBC said.
Kershaw later went on to report for Radio 4, both on music and global conflicts such as the 1994 Rwanda Genocide.
Born in Rochdale in 1959, Kershaw studied at Leeds University and started out his career in the early 80s at Radio Aire in Leeds.
