One of Manchester United’s most important players has been ruled out for up to 10 weeks with a hamstring injury.

The setback comes as the first sign of bad news at Old Trafford since the ascendency of Michael Carrick as caretaker manager a fortnight ago.

In the two weeks since his appointment, the Red Devils have beaten both of the favourites to win the 2025/26 Premier League title, Man City and Arsenal, in successive fixtures.

Carrick’s side were especially impressive in Sunday’s clash with Arsenal, where they handed the Gunners their first home defeat of the season.

It is one of the star players from that performance who has today been ruled out with injury.

According to The Athletic reporter Laurie Whitwell, Patrick Dorgu sustained a significant hamstring injury on Sunday, and scans have revealed he will miss the next 10 weeks.

Dorgu’s hamstring strain came after he had put the Red Devils 2-1 up just after half time, with an incredible long-range strike.

Later, in the dying embers of the clash, the Denmark international appeared to pull up with what appeared to be a cramp.

It now appears that the injury he sustained was far more significant.

That timeline means Dorgu will miss eight matches for Man United.

One of the few bright sparks in an otherwise difficult season, the 21-year-old has featured 22 times for the Red Devils so far this term.
