The Liverpool defender responded to a “disrespectful” question asked to Arne Slot.
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has slammed a journalist for a “disrespectful” comment towards his gaffer Arne Slot.
Ahead of the victory over Marseille, Slot was left shocked at a question asked by a reporter, in his pre-match press conference.
Supposed to be previewing the game, Slot was asked regarding speculation of Xabi Alonso and Liverpool, after his recent departure from Real Madrid, as well as mounting pressure following booing from fans.
Unsure how to react, Slot was stunned at the question, before laughing at what had been asked:

“Yeah, he called me.
“He asked, ‘What do you think about the team, because I’m going to take over in six months, can you tell me a little bit more’, or maybe earlier? Maybe he takes over tomorrow!
Keeping his calm and collected composure, he described it then as “one of the most weirdest questions I’ve ever got”, before discussing booing from Liverpool’s 1-1 draw v Burnley.
It’s fair to say the Redmen bounced back though on Wednesday night, with an emphatic 3-0 victory over French giants Marseille in the Stade Veledrome.
Skipper Van Dijk did not let the comment slide though, addressing the issue in his post-match press conference:
“That was very disrespectful,” Van Dijk stated.
“Criticism is part of the game, we all know that, but I think there is also a reason why he (the journalist) is not here.
“It’s been a very difficult part of the season for us players and the manager as well but in my opinion he handled it very well.”
