He returned from injury last night and dropped a bombshell on his gaffer
Kylian Mbappe was greeted with boos and whistles from Real Madrid fans when he returned from a hamstring injury in his side’s 2-0 victory over Real Oviedo.
Missing the Sunday 2-0 El Clasico Barcelona loss, Los Blancos saw their bitter rivals clinch the title at the Camp Nou.
Though back against Oviedo, his introduction in the 69th minute meant serious jeers from Madrid fans.
Unaffected by the jeers, Mbappe made several shots, before fellow substitute Jude Bellingham netted in the 80th minute, leaving Real Madrid still second in the table, 11 points behind title-winning Barcelona.
Though after the game, Mbappe dropped a bombshell on his gaffer Alvaro Arbeloa:
“I’m 100% fine,” he said. “I haven’t played because for the coach I’ve been the fourth striker in the squad behind (Franco) Mastantuono, Vini[cius Jr] and Gonzalo.
“I was ready to start, it’s his decision and it always has to be respected. I have no problem at all with Arbeloa. You have to accept the coach’s philosophy and I have to do better to play ahead of Vini, Gonzalo and Mastantuono.”
Arbeloa shuts down Mbappe claims
Gaffer Arbeloa instantly shut down the claims, insisting at “no point” he told the Frenchman he was the fourth choice.
“I wish I had four forwards,” Arbeloa said, responding to Mbappe’s comments.
“I don’t have four forwards, and I certainly didn’t say anything like that to Mbappe. Perhaps he didn’t understand me. I don’t know what else to tell you. At no point could I tell him that he’s the fourth-choice forward.
“I’m the coach, and I’m the one who decides who plays and who doesn’t. I had a conversation with him before the match. I don’t know how he might have interpreted it. A player who wasn’t on the bench four days ago shouldn’t start today. It’s not a final, it’s not a do-or-die situation. That’s all. I don’t have any problem with anyone.”
Why did Mbappe get booed?
Unhappy fans jeered Mbappe due to being pictured on holiday whilst recovering from his hamstring injury that kept him out of the mighty El Clasico.
However, the striker insisted the break was “authorised by the club”, meaning he just “had to accept” the reaction.
What does it mean for PL move?
Mbappe is clearly unsettled at Real Madrid and has long been linked with a move to Arsenal, which is at 4/1 odds now.
Football legend Emmanuel Petit tipped the Frenchman for a move to the Prem: “If Arsenal win the Champions League for the first time then it would change the course of their history and send a strong message in the transfer market.”
“Players would of course want to play for the Champions League winners and hope they can go and win it again, it would help them attract Kylian Mbappe if he does leave Real Madrid.”
