Horrific scenes.
Four people, including a 70-year-old, were taken to hospital after shots were fired from a moving vehicle in Brixton in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police have described the incident as an act of “indiscriminate violence.”
Officers were called to Coldharbour Lane at 1.14am following reports of a shooting from a vehicle.
Four victims sustained gunshot wounds at the scene.
A 25-year-old man remains in a life-threatening condition, while a 21-year-old, a 47-year-old, and a pensioner aged 70 all suffered injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
The London Ambulance Service said two patients were taken to a major trauma centre and two others to a local hospital.
Specialist crime officers arrived at the scene within four minutes of being called.
Several officers were later seen searching an area of grass outside the Southwyck House estate on Coldharbour Lane, close to where the shooting took place.
Robert, a 40-year-old resident of the estate who declined to give his surname, said he believed the incident unfolded during a busy barbecue party in the area.
Approximately an hour after the shooting, at 2.17am, police were called to a stabbing in nearby Acre Lane.
A 33-year-old man was found with multiple stab wounds and taken to hospital, where he also remains in a life-threatening condition.
The Metropolitan Police said it was actively investigating whether the two incidents were connected.
Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo, who is leading the investigation, said the shooting was “an act of indiscriminate violence” and acknowledged the impact it would have on the local community.
He said officers were working at pace to identify those responsible and that residents could expect an increased police presence in the area over the coming days.
No arrests have been made. The Met is appealing for anyone who witnessed either incident or has relevant footage to come forward.
