Only four teams have never played at the new Wembley Stadium
Since Wembley was rebuilt and reopened in 2007, only four clubs in the English Football League pyramid have failed to make an appearance at the famous ground.
Although home to the England national team, Wembley plays a major role in hosting the showpiece finals — ands semi-finals— of tournaments right across English football.
The most high profile of these fixtures have taken place this weekend, as Southampton, Manchester City, Leeds, and Chelsea travelled to Wembley to compete for a spot at the grand FA Cup final on Saturday May 16th.
However, while Wembley’s FA Cup matches are less likely to feature England’s lower division clubs — aside from exceptions like Sheffield United in 2014, and Wimbledon (albeit at the old ground in 1988)— there are still ample opportunities for smaller clubs to make an appearance.
The stadium also hosts the FA Community Shield, as well as the finals of lower tiered cup competitions; the FA Trophy, the FA Vase, the finals of the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy, and promotion play-off finals in the Championship, League One, League Two, and the National League.
Despite those opportunities, there are still four EFL clubs that have never played a single fixture at Wembley Stadium.

EFL clubs that haven’t played at the new Wembley
- Blackburn Rovers
- Ipswich Town
- Colchester United
- Accrington Stanley
Despite being one of the most successful clubs in English football history, with a Premier League title to their name, Balckburn Rovers have failed to secure a game at the new Wembley since its renovation.
Also in the list, are Ipswich Town, who played in the Premier League as recently as 2024/25, but have never played at the new Wembley, having secured their promotion to the top division via an automatic spot.
League Two outfits Colchester United and Accrington Stanley then close out the list.
Quite incredibly, as well as failing to secure a place at the new Wembley, Accrington never made it to the older version of the ground either, and are the only EFL club to hold that record.
