The condition of the stadium’s dressing rooms were described as ‘a total loss.’
Swiss league champions FC Basel have released a series of images after a fire seriously damaged the stadium’s changing rooms.
St. Jakob-Park, the 38,000 seater football ground in the historic European city, was affected by a fire on Saturday (10 April), causing the team’s game versus FC Thun to be postponed.
For the first time since reports of the fire began to circulate, FC Basel have released images of the fire damage, adding they intended: “to make the extent of the destruction transparent.”
The club’s post regarding the fire also details they are yet to determine the cause.
Per reports, quoted by The Sun, the majority of the damage was limited to the stadium’s sauna area, and “smoke and soot from the blaze went on to affect the nearby dressing room, showers, physiotherapy area and coach’s offices among other facilities, which were described in the statement as ‘a total loss.’”
Basel are now working to ensure the stadium is in an acceptable condition to host thier final three home matches of the 2025/26 season.
