A powerful explosion rocked the US Embassy in Oslo on Sunday morning, damaging its entrance.
The explosion struck the embassy compound in the west of Norway’s capital at around 1 am local time (midnight in the UK).
According to eyewitnesses, the blast ‘shook the house’ and created a ‘cloud of smoke’, per Metro.
Following the outbreak of war in the Middle East, the Iranian regime has targeted multiple US diplomatic missions across the Gulf.
However, it remains unclear whether the blast in Oslo is linked to the US war with Iran.
Norwegian police have said that the explosion caused minor damage and no injuries.
Officers are continuing their search for the perpetrators and have found no other explosive devices in the area.
Sebastian Toerstad, a high school student who drove past the embassy at the time of the incident, said: “There was a very thick layer of smoke on the street.
“There was some damage to the entrance.”
Oslo police subsequently confirmed to public broadcaster NRK that the blast occurred at the entrance to the compound’s consular section.
Local Anna Gilbo told CNN: “I was watching TV and heard a loud bang while the whole house shook. There was a search going on for a while after the explosion, which worried my friends and I, but it feels like the threat is over.”
Oslo Police said in a separate statement: “The police are in a dialogue with the embassy and there are no reports of any injured persons.”
