UK airline falls into liquidation with flights no longer going ahead

BREAKING

A UK airline has fallen into administration after being established in 2023.

It has been a rough time for businesses in the UK recently, with everything from bar chains to retail outlets going out of business.

Most recently, former darling of the pub world BrewDog announced it was closing 60 of its locations after struggling to turn a profit in recent years.

Aviation is not excluded from such fates, with British airlines Blue Islands and Eastern Airways entering administration last year.

Now, another UK airline has entered liquidation.

Ecojet Airlines has fallen into administration, after attempting to become the world’s first all-electric airline.

The airline had planned flights from Edinburgh to Southampton, but this will no longer go forward.

Set up in 2023 by Dale Vince, the entrepreneur said at time of its launch: “This is a vital frontier in the move to net zero, green living, whatever you choose to call it – and it’s absolutely doable. It’s a matter of when, not if.”

However, in documents seen by The Herald, the airline has now entered liquidation.

This is a “voluntary liquidation initiated by the company’s board”.

It added: “Ecojet was a start-up business and has no material assets. The members have elected to fund the liquidation process to ensure that the company’s employees receive their full statutory entitlements.”

Paul Dounis and Mark Harper, of Opus Restructuring, have been appointed as administrators.
