Police issue new update on Ian Huntley’s condition after he was attacked in prison

He was attacked last Thursday

Durham Constabulary has confirmed that there is no change to Ian Huntley’s condition, while he has been in an induced coma at Royal Victoria Infirmary since Thursday after being attacked at HMP Frankland.

Police have confirmed that he remains in a “serious condition”, as the child killer has entered his sixth day in hospital.

Last Thursday, Huntley, 52, was found lying in a pool of blood at HMP Frankland after a brutal assault in which he was battered over the head repeatedly with a metal pole.

The attack left him too seriously injured to be airlifted to hospital.

The chief suspect has been named triple murderer Anthony Russell, although police and prison officials are yet to formally confirm this.

Huntley was rushed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he has remained in an induced coma ever since, following the attack in Frankland Prison’s workshop on Thursday,.

“There has been no change in the 52-year-old man’s condition overnight – he remains in hospital in a serious condition”, Durham Constabulary told Chronicle Live on Tuesday.

Huntley is serving a life sentence for the murders of 10 year old schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham, Cambridgeshire in 2002, whilst working as a caretaker at their school.
