It’s a tough time for pubs.

It’s no secret. It’s a rough time for pubs right now.

Business rates have gone up. Wages and National Insurance contributions have gone up. Energy and utility bills have gone up.

And that’s before we even get to the booze.

The price of pint has skyrocketed in recent years, as has the price of food in many pubs too, but it’s not the pubs fault, yet they’re the ones that are feeling it the most.

Research also shows that people are drinking less alcohol overall, especially younger generations.

Some studies even suggest that the pandemic has dramatically changed drinking culture.

In 2025, it’s believed that around 366 pubs closed their doors for the last time in the UK. That’s roughly one a day.

It’s believed that even more could close down in 2026.

Unless things change dramatically, this really could be the end of, not only an era, but a culture, a history.

There is now a map online, going by the name of Is My Pub F*cked, which tells you just how f*cked your local pub is.

The site uses date from the Valuation Office Agency (VOA), the government body responsible for business rates in England and Wales.

According to the website: “This tool exists to shine a light on what pubs are up against — and to help you find one near you that could use your support.”

You can check it out here.
