{"id":5516,"date":"2026-05-09T19:01:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T19:01:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=5516"},"modified":"2026-05-09T19:01:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T19:01:20","slug":"ryanair-boss-calls-for-booze-ban-on-early-morning-flights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=5516","title":{"rendered":"Ryanair boss calls for booze ban on early morning flights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Michael O\u2019Leary has said alcohol should be banned before all early takeoffs.<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose drop-cap \">\n<p>Ryanair CEO Michael O\u2019Leary has called for early airport pints to be banned.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The head of Europe&#8217;s biggest airline said the sale of all alcohol should be banned ahead of early morning flights.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>This comes as poorly behaved passengers are allegedly causing problems for the airline, including forcing flights to divert.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:0\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Main causes for concern are certain common routes to and from holiday destinations, such as Ibiza, Alicante and Tenerife, as well as some Irish routes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/greencastlemediagroup.bbvms.com\/p\/joe_ie\/c\/6005972.html\" class=\"absolute top-0 left-0 w-full h-full border-0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" title=\"Video Player\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Currently, airport pubs and restaurants are allowed to serve alcohol any time of the day as they don\u2019t fall under the same licensing rules as regular businesses.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Speaking to The Times, O\u2019Leary revealed: \u201cIt\u2019s becoming a real challenge for all airlines.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cI fail to understand why anybody in airport bars is serving people at five or six o\u2019clock in the morning. Who needs to be drinking beer at that time?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:1\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The businessman has called for a two-drink cap over the years, which he claims the airline follows onboard its planes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWe are reasonably responsible but the ones who are not responsible, the ones who are profiteering off it, are the airports who have these bars open at five or six o\u2019clock in the morning and during delays are quite happy to send these people as much alcohol as they want because they know they\u2019re going to export the problem to the airlines.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Additionally, he has revealed the problem is worsening, adding that previously the airline would see about one diverted flight per week, which has now increased to \u2018one diversion a day\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>In a serious warning, O\u2019Leary stated: \u201cUntil somebody creates an accident that causes a plane to crash and kills hundreds, no government will take this problem seriously and airlines are tearing their hair out.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Intoxicated plane passengers can face penalties of up to two years in prison, as well as hefty fines up to \u00a35,000.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:2\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Just last year, Ryanair announced it would be taking legal action against disruptive passengers who caused a diversion in order to recover losses, and filed proceedings against an Irish passenger, seeking \u20ac15,000 (\u00a312,500) in damages caused on a flight from Dublin to Lanzarote.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><\/div>\n<p>#Ryanair #boss #calls #booze #ban #early #morning #flights<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michael O\u2019Leary has said alcohol should be banned before all early takeoffs.
