{"id":5506,"date":"2026-05-09T11:40:51","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T11:40:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=5506"},"modified":"2026-05-09T11:40:51","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T11:40:51","slug":"over-30-labour-mps-call-on-starmer-to-resign-after-local-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=5506","title":{"rendered":"Over 30 Labour MPs call on Starmer to resign after local elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>A party fracturing <\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose drop-cap \">\n<p>The number of Labour MPs calling on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to resign has passed 30 following the disastrous local elections for his party.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Things came to a head yesterday as Labour were the big losers of the local elections which, incredibly are yet to be fully done as five councils are still to declare.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:0\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:1\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Disastrous local elections for Labour<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>As things stand, 131 out of 136 councils have declared so we can give an almost full round-up of results.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The final five councils are set to declare around 4pm, as per Sky News.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>However, here are how things stand after 48 hours of scintillating suffrage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:2\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Conservative: 773 (down 557)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:3\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Residents&#8217; Association: 36 (down 31)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:4\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Conservatives: 9 (down 6)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>No Overall Control (NOC): 61 (up 22)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:5\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Labour have seen almost 1,500 councillors wiped off the map and have lost control of 35 councils. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>This, coupled with the recent Mandelson affair and the Autumn Budget which left many disgruntled has led to Starmer being crowned the unwanted honour the &#8216;most unpopular PM of all time&#8217;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>While this may be slightly harsh on Starmer &#8211; seeing that most PMs rarely win popularity contests &#8211; this discontent is appearing to spread amongst his own party.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:6\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Labour suffered huge losses in the local elections. calling on Starmer to resign &#8211; about eight per cent of their incumbent MPs in Commons.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Labour List keeps track of all the Labour MPs and their position towards the leader of their party.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>As per the site, 32 Labour MPs have called for Starmer&#8217;s resignation or timetable of departure.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Full list of Labour MPs calling for Starmer to stance<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:f\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Despite a number of unhappy MPs voicing their concern, the party leadership continues to be resolute in the face of such calls.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Labour Deputy Leader Lucy Powell told BBC Radio 4\u2019s Today: \u201cThinking that setting out some kind of timetable would put to bed the issues of leadership, I think is actually the wrong conclusion here.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>\u201cBecause all that would do is fire the starting gun of a, quite honestly, very distracting and ongoing debate about leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>While the PM himself wrote in the Guardian: \u201cWhile we must respond to the message that voters have sent us, that doesn\u2019t mean tacking right or left.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>\u201cIt means bringing together a broad political movement, being assertive about our values, bold in our vision and addressing people\u2019s demands.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:10\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>\u201cUnifying rather than dividing.
