That\u2019s how democracy works.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>If the polls are anything to go by, plenty of people are preparing to use their vote as a protest against\u00a0Labour\u00a0and\u00a0Keir Starmer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:0\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:1\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Reform UK are set to be the biggest winners from this Labour dissatisfaction. Nigel Farage\u2019s party could gain more than 2,000 councillors across England, changing the map of local politics in England.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Farage and Reform have been keen to frame these local elections as a referendum on the prime minister. Even their billboards have the words \u2018Get Starmer Out\u2019 on them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:2\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:3\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Anyone thinking of voting Reform on Thursday\u2019s local elections should remember this \u2013 this is not a vote for\u00a0Farage\u00a0to become prime minister. It is not a vote to \u2018get Starmer out.\u2019 It is a vote about who sits on your local council and runs your local area.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>That means decisions about bins, planning, local services, social care, roads. Things that actually affect your day-to-day life far more immediately than whatever is being argued over at Prime Minister\u2019s Questions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>It\u2019s not exactly glamorous stuff. But it matters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Because while a protest vote might feel satisfying in the moment, the outcome is very real. Councillors get elected. Councils get run. Decisions get made.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:4\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>And if you hand control of your local authority to a party with little experience of running councils \u2013 and, in some cases, no clear plan for doing so \u2013 you\u2019re not \u201cshaking up the system\u201d. You\u2019re living with the consequences of that experiment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:5\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>None of this is to tell you who to vote for. By all means, vote with your conscience, vote with your instincts, vote for change if that\u2019s what you want.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>But it is worth remembering what you\u2019re actually voting\u00a0<em>for<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:6\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>These local elections won\u2019t decide who runs the country. They won\u2019t undo the result of a general election.
