{"id":5437,"date":"2026-05-06T11:31:24","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T11:31:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=5437"},"modified":"2026-05-06T11:31:24","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T11:31:24","slug":"train-derailment-causes-delays-to-major-uk-airport-and-commuters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=5437","title":{"rendered":"Train derailment causes delays to major UK airport and commuters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Repairs could continue into Thursday<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose drop-cap \">\n<p>A derailed train has caused serious delays to people travelling to a major UK airport as well as commuters this morning.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Travellers and commuters alike have been left struggling to get to their destination following the derailment of a freight train this morning which has\u00a0damaged overheard wires and affected multiple routes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>A number of lines have been disrupted and as well as services traversing the nation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:0\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:1\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>&#8216;Major disruption&#8217;<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>This morning, a freight train came off the tracks at low speeds near Bilbrook in the Wolverhampton area, as confirmed by National Rail.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The organisation said in a statement: &#8220;A low speed derailment in the Wolverhampton area means that all lines between Wolverhampton and Stafford \/ Shrewsbury are disrupted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:2\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:3\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>&#8220;As a result of this incident, trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised. Major disruption is expected until the end of the day&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The incident has caused damaged to the track infrastructure, as West Midland Railways (WMR) said: &#8220;This derailment has damaged the overhead electric wires and knocked over the supports which keep them in the air.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"vimeo-player\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/1189636698?h=2b082afe1a\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\" data-embed-type=\"vimeo\" data-embed-src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/1189636698?h=2b082afe1a\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Delays getting to Birmingham Airport<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:4\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>People travelling by train to the UK seventh busiest airport, Birmingham Airport, have also been affected.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>National Rail said: &#8220;Trains are unable to run between Birmingham International and Shrewsbury in either direction.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>&#8220;Rail replacement transport is in operation between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury (operated by Keans, Pats, JKT and Northwich). Road transport will take longer than rail services. Please allow extra time to complete your journey.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:5\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>People will be able to use their ticket on the following services at no extra cost:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:6\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Alternative Transport for Wales services between Shrewsbury and Crewe<\/li>\n<li>London Northwestern Railway between Birmingham New Street and Crewe<\/li>\n<li>CrossCountry between Birmingham New Street and Stoke-on-Trent and Birmingham New Street<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, London Northwestern Railway (LNR), Transport for Wales (TfW) and WMR services have been affected.
