{"id":5372,"date":"2026-05-02T17:13:06","date_gmt":"2026-05-02T17:13:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=5372"},"modified":"2026-05-02T17:13:06","modified_gmt":"2026-05-02T17:13:06","slug":"the-golden-rule-for-booking-holidays-according-to-martin-lewis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=5372","title":{"rendered":"The &#8216;golden rule&#8217; for booking holidays, according to Martin Lewis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>He says his advice is one all travellers must follow<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose drop-cap \">\n<p>Holidaymakers have been given advice ahead of the holiday season, as an expert has revealed the most important steps to take before booking.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Founder of Money Saving Expert, Martin Lewis, has reminded holidaymakers of his \u201cgolden\u201d travel rules, which he says everybody needs to follow.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>During a recent special edition of the Money Show Live on April 28, the \u201cmost important\u201d tip is to take out travel insurance \u201cas soon as you book\u201d, Lewis said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:0\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>This is a principle that he shortens to four letters: \u201cASAB\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>\u201cIf you&#8217;re booking a single-trip policy, then you get the insurance as soon as you book to cover a specific future date\u201d, Lewis said as he outlined his rule.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>\u201cYou pay for that and, once you&#8217;ve paid for it, you have the travel insurance. If anything happens from that point onwards, you&#8217;re covered, no problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Travellers should look at securing insurance the moment they book their holiday, safeguarding themselves should any problems arise in the lead-up to their travels, rather than waiting for something to go wrong, Lewis revealed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:1\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:2\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>As the Express reports, Martin&#8217;s reason for getting protected straight away &#8211; even if your trip is several weeks or more than a year down the line &#8211; is that cover kicks in immediately.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>\u201cThe reason you do that is that half of the coverage you&#8217;re paying for is in case something happens that stops you from going before the trip\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>\u201cIf you don&#8217;t have travel insurance, you&#8217;ve got no cover. So you might as well have it in place. At this time of year, when many people have already booked, I have a slight adaptation. If you&#8217;ve booked and you don&#8217;t have it yet, just get it now.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Lewis warned anyone booking a summer holiday that they would not receive a refund if their flight was cancelled and they were unable to reach their hotel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:3\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:4\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>This only applied if they had booked in a particular way, however, and there is a means of safeguarding yourself should the worst come to pass.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>An audience member asked the money expert: \u201cIf my flight&#8217;s cancelled due to no jet fuel will you definitely receive all your money back, even for your hotel booking as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Travellers would lose their hotel booking money if it had been booked separately from their flights, Lewis confirmed, as they would not be protected under consumer rules.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>He said: \u201cNo. And I think this is what people need to be very aware of.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>\u201cIf you booked a package holiday where you booked everything in one, then under the package holiday regulations and rules and protections generally, if your flight went, you would get everything back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the moment, package holidays give you a certain level of extra security that you wouldn&#8217;t get if you did a DIY booking where you bought your hotel and flight separately\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><\/div>\n<p>#golden #rule #booking #holidays #Martin #Lewis<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He says his advice is one all travellers must follow Holidaymakers have been given advice ahead of the holiday season, as an expert has revealed the most important steps to take before booking.
