{"id":5290,"date":"2026-04-29T15:08:40","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T15:08:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=5290"},"modified":"2026-04-29T15:08:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T15:08:40","slug":"cancer-is-on-the-rise-among-young-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=5290","title":{"rendered":"Cancer is on the rise among young people"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Experts have raised the alarm<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose drop-cap \">\n<p>Cancer rates among young people are on the rise, but experts are yet to find a conclusive reason for the increase.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>A major new study has revealed that there are eleven types of cancer that are becoming more common among young people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Scientists from the Institute of Cancer Research and Imperial College London emphasised that cancer among young people is still rare, but that it is on the rise.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:0\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Although risk can be minimised by living a healthy lifestyle, experts warned that they do not have a conclusive answer for why rates of the disease are increasing among people under 50.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The study claims that the trend of people being more overweight has played a role in the increased rates of cancer, but this does not explain the full story.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:1\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>For example, in cases of bowel cancer, scientists explained that for every 100 extra cases, 20 may be due to excess weight, leaving 80 with no clear explanation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>&#8220;It is very worrisome to hear the news that cancers are increasing in young people,&#8221; Prof Montserrat Garc\u00eda Closas told the BBC.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:2\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>&#8220;However, there are things that can be done to reduce the risk of cancer by having a healthy lifestyle &#8211; for instance, being physically active and maintaining a healthy weight.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>What are the symptoms of cancer in young people?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The Children and Young People&#8217;s Cancer Association says many of the symptoms in young people can also be symptoms of common illnesses, so they may be easy to miss.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>However, there are some things to look out for, including:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:3\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:4\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>What cancers are most common in young people?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The new analysis has provided a list of eleven cancers in particular that are seeing a rise in young people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>These eleven cancers are as follows: bowel cancer; thyroid, multiple myeloma, liver, kidney, gallbladder, pancreatic, womb lining (or endometrial), mouth, breast and ovarian cancers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The most common cancers in young adults are bowel and breast cancers, with a combined 11,500 cases a year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Cases of pancreatic and gall bladder cancer are much rarer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:5\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Out of these cancers, the only ones seeing an increase in just young people are bowel and ovarian cancer. The other cancers are also increasing across other age groups.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Bowel cancer<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The NHS lists the signs of bowel cancer as including:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:6\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Thyroid cancer<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:7\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The NHS lists the symptoms of thyroid cancer as:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a lump in the front, lower part of your neck \u2013 the lump usually feels hard, slowly gets bigger and is not painful<\/li>\n<li>a hoarse voice<\/li>\n<li>a sore throat<\/li>\n<li>difficulty swallowing or breathing<\/li>\n<li>pain in the front of your neck, or a feeling like something is pressing against your neck<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Other symptoms can include:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a red face (flushing) \u2013 this may be harder to see on brown or black skin<\/li>\n<li>softer poos or diarrhoea<\/li>\n<li>weight loss<\/li>\n<li>a cough<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Multiple Myeloma<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:8\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The NHS says symptoms of myeloma include:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bone pain \u2013 you may feel this in your back, hips, shoulders or ribs<\/li>\n<li>Feeling very tired for no reason<\/li>\n<li>Shortness of breath<\/li>\n<li>Muscle weakness<\/li>\n<li>Headaches<\/li>\n<li>Feeling very thirsty and needing to pee more often than usual<\/li>\n<li>Losing weight without trying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Sometimes, myeloma can show no symptoms, and you can find out whether you have it after having a blood test for other reasons.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Liver cancer<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Liver cancer may not show any symptoms, or they can be hard to spot. However, the NHS says symptoms can include:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:9\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:a\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Other symptoms can affect your digestion, such as:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>feeling or being sick<\/li>\n<li>pain at the top right side of your tummy or in your right shoulder<\/li>\n<li>symptoms of indigestion, such as feeling full very quickly when eating<\/li>\n<li>a very swollen tummy that is not related to when you eat<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Kidney cancer <\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The NHS says kidney cancer does not always present obvious symptoms, and can often be diagnosed when undergoing tests for something else.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:b\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>When there are symptoms, however, they can include:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Blood in your pee<\/li>\n<li>A lump or swelling in your back, under your ribs, or in your neck<\/li>\n<li>Pain between your ribs and waist that does not go away<\/li>\n<li>Loss of appetite or losing weight without trying to<\/li>\n<li>Feeling tired or having no energy<\/li>\n<li>A high temperature that does not go away<\/li>\n<li>Sweating a lot, including at night<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Gallbladder cancer<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Gallbladder cancer may not have any symptoms, and those that it does have may be hard to spot.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The symptoms can being sick<\/li>\n<li>Aching pain in the right side of your tummy, sometimes described as a &#8220;dragging feeling&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Sharp pain in your tummy<\/li>\n<li>A very swollen tummy that&#8217;s not related to when you eat<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Pancreatic cancer <\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Although pancreatic cancer may present no symptoms, the NHS lists some signs that may indicate something is wrong.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template bloated<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Endometrial cancer (womb lining) <\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:e\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The Mayo Clinic says endometrial cancer can present itself with these symptoms:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Vaginal bleeding after menopause<\/li>\n<li>Bleeding between periods<\/li>\n<li>Pelvic pain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Mouth cancer <\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The NHS lists the symptoms of mouth cancer as follows:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A mouth ulcer in your mouth that lasts more than 3 weeks<\/li>\n<li>A red or white patch inside your moutha lump inside your mouth or on your lip<\/li>\n<li>Pain inside your mouthdifficulty swallowing<\/li>\n<li>Difficulty speaking or a hoarse (croaky) voicea lump in your neck or throat<\/li>\n<li>Losing weight without trying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:f\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Breast cancer<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The NHS lists symptoms of breast cancer in women as including:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:10\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Ovarian cancers<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The NHS says the main symptoms of ovarian cancer include suffering these symptoms roughly twelve or more times per
