<\/p>\n Before King Charles’ emotional address, a barnstorming ceremonial welcome at the White House saw Donald Trump lavish praise on the centuries-old bond between the two nations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n The historic State Visit had been called into question in recent months giving Trump’s continued barrafe of criticism for the UK, amid allied unwillingness to back his war in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n However, in a rather dramatic turn of events, the President told guests at the official ceremonial welcome: \u201cAmericans have had no closer friends than the British.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n Proclaiming the \u201cspecial relationship\u201d between the United States and the UK, Donald Trump turned to the King who listened intently throughout his 20-minute speech and said, \u201cWe hope it will always remain that way.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n In his speech, King Charles said he felt \u201cthe weight of history on my shoulder\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n \u201cWe meet, too, in the aftermath of the incident not far from this great building that sought to harm the leadership of your Nation and to foment wider fear and discord. Let me say with unshakeable resolve: such acts of violence will never succeed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n \u201cWhatever our differences, whatever disagreements we may have, we stand united in our commitment to uphold democracy, to protect all our people from harm, and to salute the courage of those who daily risk their lives in the service of our countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n The Monarch went on to reflect on his late mother’s visit in 1991, but said Britain and the US should look towards a new future. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n He said: \u201cOur shared values prevailed. Today, we find ourselves in a new era, but those values remain. It is an era that is, in many ways, more volatile and more dangerous than the world to which my late Mother spoke, in this Chamber, in 1991.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n \u201cThe challenges we face are too great for any one Nation to bear alone. But in this unpredictable environment, our Alliance cannot rest on past achievements, or assume that foundational principles simply endure.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n \u201cAs my Prime Minister said last month: \u2018Ours is an indispensable partnership. We must not disregard everything that has sustained us for the last eighty years. Instead, we must build on it\u2019. Renewal today starts with security.
