This was after Green MP Hannah Spencer voiced her shock at\u00a0being able to \u201csmell the alcohol\u201d\u00a0in between evening votes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Speaking to\u00a0PoliticsJOE, the Gorton and Denton MP said she was \u201creally uneasy about when you can smell the alcohol when people are in between votes.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:0\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>She continued: \u201cThere\u2019s a room where I walk past and I doubled back and looked in because people are just sat having a drink.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Spencer made the point that in almost any other profession, drinking on the job would be unacceptable and questioned why it was allowed in Westminster.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The comments have sparked some strong reactions, with a number of MPs\u00a0defending their right\u00a0to have a drink during the working Westminster day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>However, polling on the issue has now revealed that Spencer seems to have the firm support of the public on this matter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:1\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>According to data gathered by YouGov, 76 per cent of Brits think it is unacceptable for MPs to drink alcohol ahead of votes in Parliament.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>More than half (52 per cent) of those asked reckoned it was \u201ccompletely unacceptable,\u201d with 24 per cent saying it was \u201csomewhat unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Perhaps MPs angry at Spencer\u2019s comments might now realise this isn\u2019t really the hill they want to die on.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>You can watch the full interview with Hannah Spencer below.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$?--><template id=\"B:2\"\/><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"What it&#039;s REALLY like in Westminster | Hannah Spencer interview\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ffpDGH1-5tY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><\/div>\n<p>#Brits #unacceptable #MPs #drink #voting<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It seems most people are with Hannah Spencer on this one.
