{"id":4783,"date":"2026-04-08T17:36:52","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T17:36:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=4783"},"modified":"2026-04-08T17:36:52","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T17:36:52","slug":"both-horse-and-rider-came-back-from-deaths-door","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=4783","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Both horse and rider came back from death&#8217;s door&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>&#8216;That&#8217;s one of the greatest sporting stories of all time, isn&#8217;t it?&#8217;<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose drop-cap \">\n<p>This week on your favourite horse racing podcast, The Paddock, the crew of Oli Bell, Tom Stanley, Rishi Persad and Nick Luck are back together to discuss the rapidly approaching Grand National.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The panel talk Aintree vs Cheltenham, their first memories of the Grand National as well as their tips and picks for this weekend&#8217;s big race.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Rishi Persad, who grew up in Trinidad, shared his memories of horse racing from his childhood in the Caribbean, explaining that only three races were shown live at the time &#8211; the Derby, the King George at Ascot, and the Grand National.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Rishi recalled: &#8220;I grew up originally on the flat with horses like Troy as the ones that I loved.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>&#8220;But then in the National, there was Corbiere, Greasepaint, Hello Dandy, West Tip, and they ran in the race regularly.\u00a0So every year you&#8217;d be like, &#8216;Oh, I remember that horse'&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>&#8220;It was huge&#8221;, Rishi said talking about the Grand National&#8217;s popularity in Trinidad.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>When pushed for a specific first Grand National winner that he remembered by the rest of the Paddock crew, Rishi brought up the 1981 winner Aldiniti for his incredible story.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>&#8220;The one I remember vividly is Aldaniti,&#8221; he said, to which Oli Bell chimed in saying &#8220;the story with Aldiniti was incredible&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Rishi added: &#8220;That&#8217;s one of the greatest sporting stories of all time, isn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>&#8220;Bob Champion had cancer, came back to win.\u00a0Aldaniti was basically broken down twice,&#8221; Oli continued, \u00a0&#8220;both horse and rider came back from death&#8217;s door.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>An incredible memory and there&#8217;s plenty more stories in the full episode to be enjoyed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><\/div>\n<p>#horse #rider #deaths #door<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;That&#8217;s one of the greatest sporting stories of all time, isn&#8217;t it?&#8217; This week on your favourite horse racing podcast, The Paddock, the crew of Oli Bell, Tom Stanley, Rishi Persad and Nick Luck are back together to discuss the rapidly approaching Grand National.
