{"id":4590,"date":"2026-03-31T15:26:38","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T15:26:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=4590"},"modified":"2026-03-31T15:26:38","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T15:26:38","slug":"major-bin-rule-changes-in-full-as-new-laws-come-into-effect-from-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=4590","title":{"rendered":"Major bin rule changes in full as new laws come into effect from today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Here&#8217;s how you will have to divide waste <\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose drop-cap \">\n<p>From today, March 31, a set of new bin rules comes into effect as the government rolls out its Simpler Recycling scheme to homes in England.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>This comes a year after the scheme was introduced, as it has been long in the works.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The recycling scheme was launched by Labour in 2025, under the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>It aims to streamline waste collections in England initially for businesses, requiring glass, metal, plastic, paper and card to be collected separately from general waste.<\/p>\n<p>According to the government, the new rules will end what it calls a \u201cpostcode lottery\u201d impacting the country with a set of universal rules across England.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>British recycling is set to receive a boost through this initiative, as observance has fallen in recent years, initially just for businesses but now for regular households.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>From today, March 31, local authorities will implement standardised core recycling collections.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>The new rules are set to make recycling easier for millions of people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>As per the new rules, households in England are required to divide waste between four separate bins.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>This way, it will separate out food with paper, card, recyclables and general rubbish.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>Food and Garden Waste<br \/>Paper and Card<br \/>Dry Recyclables (Glass, Metal, Plastic)<br \/>General Rubbish<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<p><h2>Full list of items refuse collectors don&#8217;t take<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>As DEFRA advises refuse collectors that there are materials \u201cyou do not need to collect\u201d under the Simpler Recycling scheme, Brits should make a note of the kinds of materials that cannot be deposited in standard household recycling.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>These include several items many people might otherwise assume can be disposed with their typical waste.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>According to DEFRA, the items that can&#8217;t be collected include:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>\u2022 Candles<br \/>\u2022 Drinking glasses<br \/>\u2022 Flat glass<br \/>\u2022 Glass cookware (such as Pyrex)<br \/>\u2022 Light bulbs and tubes<br \/>\u2022 Microwave plates<br \/>\u2022 Mirrors<br \/>\u2022 Vases<br \/>\u2022 Window glass<br \/>\u2022 Ceramics, such as crockery or earthenware<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>\u2022 Laminated foil, like pet food pouches and coffee pouches<br \/>\u2022 Electrical items and batteries<br \/>\u2022 General kitchenware like cutlery, pots and pans<br \/>\u2022 Kettles<br \/>\u2022 Irons<br \/>\u2022 Pipes<br \/>\u2022 Metal packaging that has contained white spirits, paints, engine oils or antifreeze<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>\u2022 Any plastic packaging or non-packaging items labelled as &#8216;compostable&#8217; or &#8216;biodegradable\u2019, including coffee pods<br \/>\u2022 Plastic bottles that have contained white spirits, paints, engine oils or antifreeze<br \/>\u2022 Bulky rigid plastics such as garden furniture, bins and plastic toys<br \/>\u2022 Polystyrene (expanded and high impact) packaging such as packing beads<br \/>\u2022 Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) packaging<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--\/$--><!--$--><!--\/$--><!--$--><\/p>\n<div class=\"custom-prose  \">\n<p>\u2022 Food and drinks cartons made of a fibre-based composite (these should be collected in the plastic stream)<br \/>\u2022 Absorbent hygiene products (AHPs) including nappies, period products and incontinence products<br \/>\u2022 Cotton wool or makeup pads<br \/>\u2022 Tissue or toilet paper<br \/>\u2022 Wet wipes<br \/>\u2022 Food waste<br \/>\u2022 Any plastic packaging or non-packaging items labelled as &#8216;compostable&#8217;
