<\/p>\nEd Davey has slammed Donald Trump as the \u201cmost corrupt president ever\u201d as he accused him of market manipulation with his posts on Iran.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Speaking at an event on Tuesday evening, Davey was asked about Trump\u2019s claims this week that the US has had \u201cproductive conversations\u201d with Iran about ending the conflict between the two sides.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
These claims were quickly denied by the regime in Tehran, who said they\u2019d had no contact with officials in Washington.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
What Trump did manage to do though was make a lot of money for those who conveniently placed hundreds of millions in bets on oil markets just minutes before his claim of talks with Tehran.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
When Davey was asked if he believed Trump\u2019s claims of negotiations, Davey had a blunt response.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, I don\u2019t believe a word he says,\u201d the Lib Dem leader said. \u201cHe\u2019s the most corrupt US president ever, and it pains me to say but he\u2019s an unreliable ally and he needs calling out.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
Davey went on to slam the impact that Trump\u2019s war in Iran has had on people around the world and in the UK.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
He also called out the likes of Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage for \u2018cheerleading Donald Trump\u2019 and wanting British forces join the conflict.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
Davey then referenced the widely reported abnormal trading patterns that were seen in the minutes before Trump\u2019s surprise claim about Iran talks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
Some $580mn in oil bets\u00a0were placed by traders, who quickly made huge sums of money as oil prices fell and stocks bounced as a result of Trump\u2019s Truth Social post.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it was manipulating the markets in order to make money for him and his cronies,\u201d Davey said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cI think there\u2019s a real whiff of insider trading where he was moving those markets and making money.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cHow disgusting, how corrupt, and we should call him out.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
