Donald Trump has delivered a nonsensical and unhinged rant taking aim at the BBC, which he described as \u2018corrupt, fraudulent and criminal.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
Speaking in the White House on Tuesday, Trump was asked about\u00a0his $10bn defamation case\u00a0against the corporation over its editing of his speech in a Panorama documentary.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
The president immediately falsely claimed he had not said the words featured in the documentary and the footage from his January 6 speech was \u2018AI-generated.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cThey had me speaking something I never said,\u201d Trump told reporters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
Trump then took aim at BBC News for its coverage of the war in Iran, labelling the broadcaster \u201cfake news.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cI watched them this morning for some crazy reason and it was so inaccurate,\u201d he continued. \u201cTheir reporting of the war was unbelievable.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have decimated that country [Iran] and if you watch BBC it\u2019s almost like they\u2019re fighting us to a draw \u2013 they\u2019re not fighting us to a draw!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was very inaccurate news, it was fake news.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
After saying he was \u201cvery proud\u201d of the term fake news, Trump labelled the BBC \u201ccorrupt, fraudulent news,\u201d adding: \u201cIt\u2019s beyond fake, it\u2019s really criminal what they do.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
Right after saying this though, he then admitted \u201cI don\u2019t know much about BBC other than what took place\u201d with the Panorama controversy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
When he finally got round to answering the reporter\u2019s initial question about the defamation case, Trump said: \u201cWe brought a lawsuit against them. They admit they\u2019re guilty but we\u2019ll see how it comes out.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
The BBC has not admitted any guilt in terms of the defamation case and\u00a0has officially filed\u00a0to have it dismissed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
Whilst the corporation has apologised for the splicing together of two separate parts of Trump\u2019s speech in the Panorama doc, it has made clear it will \u201crobustly defend the case against us.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A BBC spokesperson said: \u201cPut simply \u2014 the documentary was never aired in Florida \u2014 or the U.S. It wasn\u2019t available to watch in the U.S. on iPlayer, online or any other streaming platforms including BritBox and BBC Select. We have therefore challenged jurisdiction of the Florida court and filed a motion to dismiss the President\u2019s claim.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Trump\u2019s lawsuit claims people in Florida may have viewed the programme by using a virtual private network (VPN). In response, the BBC said it \u201cprohibits the unauthorised use of VPNs to watch iPlayer from outside the UK and takes active steps to enforce this ban.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
Reuters\u00a0reports that the BBC\u2019s motion to dismiss also argues that Trump \u201c\u201ccannot \u200bplausibly claim that the documentary \u200bharmed his reputation\u201d because he went on to win the election after the documentary aired.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
