On Saturday, the US president shared a post on Truth Social in which he called on the UK, China, France, Japan, South Korea and other nations to send ships to the Strait to protect commercial ships.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The following day, Trump gave to the\u00a0Financial Times\u00a0in which he said failure to secure shipping would \u201cbe very bad for the future of Nato.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
And speaking to reporters on Air Force One, he\u00a0issued a veiled threat\u00a0to the UK if they did not help America, telling Keir Starmer: \u201cWe will remember.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
The response from other nations to Trump? This is your mess, you clean it up.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
One by one, the US\u2019s Nato allies and other countries have refused to send ships to the strait.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
United Kingdom<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

Speaking from Downing Street on Monday, Starmer reiterated his stance that the UK will \u201cnot be drawn into wider war,\u201d and that his priority was working to end the war as soon as possible to prevent the cost of living going up for Brits.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
Germany<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Germans have been pretty clear as well, with their Defence Minister Boris Pistorius rejecting Trump\u2019s demands. \u201cThis is not our war, we have not started it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Stefan Kornelius, spokesperson for German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, dismissed Trump\u2019s threats to Nato, saying the conflict \u201chas nothing to do with NATO.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
He continued: \u201cIt\u2019s not NATO\u2019s war. NATO is a defensive alliance, an alliance for the defence of its territory. I would also like to remind you that the U.S. and Israel did not consult us before the war, and that Washington explicitly stated at the start of the war that European assistance was neither necessary nor desired.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

France<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

France had already made its position clear before Trump\u2019s comments over the weekend. Speaking on Thursday, defence minister Catherine Vautrin said France would not be sending warships to the strait of Hormuz while the conflict continued to escalate.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very clear and firm on this topic; at this point, there is no question of sending any vessels to the strait of Hormuz,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Japan<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

On Monday, Japan\u2019s Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi told parliament they were \u201cnot considering a maritime security operation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Australia<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

Australia has also firmly ruled out sending ships to the strait. Speaking to ABC on Monday, cabinet member Catherine King said: \u201cWe won\u2019t be sending a ship to the Strait of Hormuz. We know how incredibly important that is. That\u2019s not something that we\u2019ve been asked, or we\u2019re contributing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

China<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington did not say whether Beijing would accept Trump\u2019s request, but that Beijing would work to strengthen \u201ccommunication with relevant parties\u201d in the Middle East and \u201cplay a constructive role for deescalation and restoration of peace\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

They said all parties have a responsibility to ensure a stable and unimpeded energy supply.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

South Korea<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n

South Korea\u2019s presidential office said the country had taken note of Trump\u2019s comments and would \u201ccommunicate closely with the US regarding this matter and make a decision after careful review.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
