A man in the Question Time audience bizarrely blamed the \u2018radical left\u2019 Greens for the decision to remove Winston Churchill from new banknotes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
The right\u00a0have been up in arms\u00a0this week at more so-called \u2018wokery\u2019 after the Bank of England announced historical figures such as Churchill, Jane Austen and Alan Turing would be removed from new banknotes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
Instead, the new notes will feature pictures of British wildlife and nature.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
The move\u00a0was decided by the Bank of England after a public consultation \u2013 in which nature was the most popular response for what people would like to see on the notes \u2013 and is standard procedure to help combat counterfeits.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
But this hasn\u2019t stopped right-wing voices blaming the \u2018woke\u2019, Keir Starmer\u2019s government \u2013 and even the Green Party.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
When the subject was brought up during this week\u2019s Question Time, one man in the audience, who was clearly quite upset by the fact he won\u2019t see Churchill\u2019s face on a fiver anymore, said it was the fault of the \u201cradical left.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cThey [the Greens] are what I deem the radical left, and a danger to our country and society economically,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
In response, Green MP Sian Berry said she \u201cfully supports\u201d British animals and wildlife featuring on the notes, but pointed out to the man that her party had obviously had nothing to do with this.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
