In a press conference on Monday, Farage unveiled his party\u2019s plans for electoral reform, which include only allowing naturalised British citizens to vote in Parliamentary elections and restricting postal voting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
Under Reform\u2019s plans, residents from Commonwealth countries would lose their right to vote whilst only elderly and disabled people, serving armed forces personnel, and those working overseas during an election would be able to use postal voting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
The Clacton MP claimed postal voting has turned the UK\u2019s elections into a \u2018laughing stock\u2019, and that allowing non-British citizens to vote is \u2018absurd\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The electoral reform announcement comes in the wake of Reform\u2019s by-election defeat in Gorton and Denton, which was one by the Greens\u2019 Hannah Spencer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

But following the vote, there have been claims from Reform of \u2018sectarian voting\u2019 from the Muslim community, with Farage\u00a0calling for an investigation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The timing of Farage\u2019s announcement on electoral reform has prompted accusations from Trades Union Congress chief Paul Nowak that the Reform leader is \u201ctrying to rig the rules\u201d on elections.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He told the\u00a0Mirror: \u201cNigel Farage is a sore loser. His baseless conspiracy theories make him sound more like Donald Trump every day. Instead of trying to rig the rules \u2013 restricting who can vote or banning postal ballots \u2013 he should look closer to home.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cPeople in Gorton and Denton turned out to reject Reform\u2019s nasty and divisive agenda. An agenda that would scrap employment protections, legalise discrimination and axe renters\u2019 rights \u2013 handing more power to bad bosses and rogue landlords.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Unison\u2019s assistant general secretary, Jon Richards, said: \u201cIf Nigel Farage was such a fan of democracy, he\u2019d have insisted on a by-election every time another chancer Tory MP defected to Reform. It\u2019s funny how he has far less interest in overseas influence when it comes to the funding of his party.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
