The student who was stabbed to death on a university campus in Leicester has been named locally as Khaleed in tributes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The 20-year-old was found collapsed with stab wounds just after 5pm on Tuesday evening, in Oxford Street on the De Montfort University campus.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
Police closed a number of roads in the city in the early hours of the morning on Wednesday and later confirmed that an 18-year-old man was arrested.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
The victim, now known as Khaleed, was stabbed following an altercation with the suspect.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
He was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary where he died shortly after.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
“We are currently piecing together exactly what has occurred on the corner of Oxford Street and Bonners Lane between, what is reported, as two men involved in a confrontation”, Detective Inspector Lorna Granville said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
“One of the men is believed to have been stabbed and has then collapsed in the street. Despite the best efforts of medical staff he died in hospital.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
“CCTV in the area is currently being reviewed and officers are speaking to potential witnesses to assist with our investigation”, she added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
Police also explained that the event was not a ‘mass stabbing’ – a rumour that had been speculated on social media.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

They said: “Speculation is unhelpful, but we can confirm that this was not a mass stabbing.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
Support was being offered to students and staff who witnessed the incident, De Montfort University said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201c’We are aware of a very serious incident on our campus\u201d, a spokesperson for the university told the BBC.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are working with Leicestershire Police as they launch an immediate investigation. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by what has happened\u201d, the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
