Bridget Jones actor, Donald Douglas, has sadly passed away after a short illness.<\/p>\n
Douglas died in hospital surrounded by friends and family.<\/p>\n

His death was announced online by a local funeral home.<\/p>\n
The notice read: \u201cDear family and friends, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Douglas on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Albi.\u201d<\/p>\n
Douglas starred in Bridget Jones where he played Admiral Darcy, Colin Firth\u2019s on-screen father.<\/p>\n He also had roles in Doctor Who and Poldark.<\/p>\n Born in 1933 in Scotland, Douglas studied at Edinburgh College of Art before enrolling in RADA.<\/p>\n Following the news of his death, tributes from all over the world have poured in.<\/p>\n Merideth Wheeler wrote: \u201cDonald was talented in so many ways apart from acting and performing.<\/p>\n \u201cA playful and gifted artist, he worked with all kinds of media, from sculpture to paint. He was an expert in ceramic restoration.<\/p>\n \u201cHe laid a beautiful table and was a fabulous cook. It was a joy to attend a meal at his beautiful home with his partner, Emma Temple.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n \u201cHe was a great equestrian along with Emma and loved his dogs. His gardening was stunning as the montage illustrates.<\/p>\n \u201cHe had an impish sense of humour and a generous heart.\u201d<\/p>\n Fellow actor, Toby Hadoke, wrote: \u201cWhat an actor. Always brought a bit of heft and a touch of class to his roles which is I guess why his CV brimmed with illustrious fare. He was terrific in Poldark, his Vural in Doctor Who\u2019s The Sontaran Experiment was much more rounded and believable than he would have been in lesser hands\u2026 and he was Colin Firth\u2019s dad in Bridget Jones for goodness\u2019 sake.\u201d<\/p>\n His final role was in the 2021 drama Nobody Has To Know.<\/p>\n Douglas relocated to France in later life.<\/p>\n He was 92.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \n <\/div>\n #Bridget #Jones #actor #Donald #Douglas #died<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Tributes have poured in.
