And the issue of potential conscription in a worst-case scenario remains a concern, as something the government does not want to do but may be forced to.<\/p>\n
Retired Lieutenant Colonel Stuart Crawford said that the idea of conscription \u201cshouldn\u2019t be dismissed out of hand\u201d, and that \u201cif we can\u2019t recruit sufficient volunteers then conscription may be necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added that \u201chow it is applied is another debate altogether, but younger single men and women would seem to be the obvious target demographic\u201d.<\/p>\n
As per the results of a 2024 YouGov poll, millions of Brits wouldn\u2019t want to fight in a war.<\/p>\n
According to the data, in the event of WW3, 38% of Brits aged under 40 would refuse to serve in the armed forces.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, 30% said they wouldn\u2019t serve in the case of an \u201cimminent invasion\u201d.<\/p>\n
