Trump meets with Mar\u00eda Corina Machado of Venezuela in the Oval Office, during which she presented the President with her Nobel Peace Prize in recognition and honor.\ud83d\udd4a\ufe0f <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/v7pYHjVNVO\">pic.twitter.com\/v7pYHjVNVO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The White House (@WhiteHouse) <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WhiteHouse\/status\/2012006221340164338?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 16, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>After leaving the White House, Machado spoke to supporters in Spanish outside the White House, telling them: \u201cWe can count on President Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI presented the president of the United States the medal of the Nobel Peace Prize,\u201d she later told journalists.<\/p>\n<p>She called it \u201ca recognition for his unique commitment with our freedom\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, however, Trump did not endorse Machado as the new leader of Venezuela, continuing to deal with Maduro\u2019s former vice-president Delcy Rodr\u00edguez.<\/p>\n<p>In the last couple weeks, rumour that Machado might give her Nobel Peace Prize medal to Trump after he intervened in Venezuela to remove her opposition Nicol\u00e1s Maduro.<\/p>\n<p>This led to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee issuing multiple statement relating to the award, once last week, and again just yesterday (15 January).<\/p>\n<p>In a statement last week, the organisation issued a communication titled: \u2018Is it possible to revoke a Nobel Peace Prize?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>It read: \u201cIt is not possible to revoke a Nobel Peace Prize. Neither Alfred Nobel\u2019s will nor the Statutes of the Nobel Foundation mention any such possibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a matter of principle, the Norwegian Nobel Committee will not comment upon what the Peace Prize Laureates may say and do after they have been awarded the prize. The Committee\u2019s mandate is restricted to evaluate the work and efforts of the nominated candidates up to the moment it is decided who shall be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for a given year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Nobel Prize can neither be revoked, shared, nor transferred to others. Once the announcement has been made, the decision stands for all time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis does not prevent the Committee from following the future endeavours of laureates closely, even though it expresses\u00a0neither its concerns nor its acclamation.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The first Nobel peace price was awarded December 10, 1901.  <\/p>\n<p>In all these 124 years they have never had to issue a statement that a Nobel prize cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred, until a corrupt, demented circus clown took office. <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/llVCUnY06Y\">pic.twitter.com\/llVCUnY06Y<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Marlene Robertson\ud83c\udde8\ud83c\udde6 (@marlene4719) <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/marlene4719\/status\/2009762372592795733?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 9, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Yesterday, upon the news of Machado visiting Trump at the White House, the official X account for the Nobel Peace Center shared a post about their iconic medals.<\/p>\n<p>As well as providing information on the history of the medal, the post finished by stating: \u201cOnce a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe decision is final and stands for all time.\u201d A medal can change owners, but the title of a Nobel Peace Prize laureate cannot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump had long lobbied for the Nobel Peace Prize before it was handed to Machado in October 2025.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed to have ended a number of wars around the world, some claims fairer than others, but ultimately the Norwegian committee handed the award to the Venezuelan activist for her work promoting democracy and human rights in Venezuela.<\/p>\n<p>Following the award being given, Trump claimed that Machado had called him and told him she was accepting the prize \u201cin honour of you because you really deserved it.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NobelPeacePrize?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#NobelPeacePrize<\/a> medal.<\/p>\n<p>It measures 6.6 cm in diameter, weighs 196 grams and is struck in gold. On its face, a portrait of Alfred Nobel and on its reverse, three naked men holding around each other\u2019s shoulders as a sign of brotherhood.
