{"id":2651,"date":"2026-01-16T05:54:33","date_gmt":"2026-01-16T05:54:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=2651"},"modified":"2026-01-16T05:54:33","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T05:54:33","slug":"military-expert-issues-conscription-warning-to-two-groups-of-people-in-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=2651","title":{"rendered":"Military expert issues conscription warning to two groups of people in UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-there-are-two-obvious-target-demographics\">There are two obvious target demographics<\/h2>\n<p>A warning has been issued to two groups of Brits, as the experts have weighed in on the topic of conscription and how likely it is for the government to implement it.<\/p>\n<p>As per the results of a 2024 YouGov poll, millions of Brits are nervous for their imminent features, as it revealed that many wouldn\u2019t want to fight in a war.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>According to the data, in the event of WW3, 38% of Brits aged under 40 would refuse to serve in the armed forces.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, 30% said they wouldn\u2019t serve in the case of an \u201cimminent invasion\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that conscription isn\u2019t on the agenda.<\/p>\n<p>However, many Brits will likely still be anxious, considering the tumultuous start we have had in the new year.<\/p>\n<p>In the first week of 2026, US President Donald Trump ordered the US military to carry out strikes on Venezuela, as it abducted Nicolas Maduro, the country\u2019s president.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Trump has threatened to do things the \u201chard way\u201d in regards to Greenland.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you need to know about conscription?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When a country\u2019s military requires people to fight in a war but there aren\u2019t enough people who volunteer for the army, that is when conscription is introduced.<\/p>\n<p>What conscription means, in simple terms, is that you\u2019ll legally be required to fight if you are able to.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>According to Chief of the Defence Staff Sir Richard Knighton, this will likely not happen in the near future as he said that he \u201ccannot see conscription returning in the short term\u201d, as he added that there were currently \u201cno plans\u201d for it to be introduced.<\/p>\n<p>However, Sir Richard did highlight that \u201cthe situation in the world may deteriorate very significantly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the prime minister last year said that the proposal of conscription \u201cnever crossed my lips\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What happens if you refuse conscription?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During World War II, this would have landed you in a world of trouble.<\/p>\n<p>The government would usually assign work in farming, hospitals, civil defence, forestry, or non-combat military roles \u2013 if you were one who refused to fight.<\/p>\n<p>If, however, you chose to refuse all war-related work, you would very likely face prison time.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, certain types of jobs have been exempt from conscription.<\/p>\n<p>These included professions such as bakers, farmers, doctors, nurses and engineers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Knighton warned young Brits at the end of last year<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the end of 2025, Knighton claimed that the world is now \u201cmore dangerous than I have known during my career\u201d, as he spoke of the \u201csons and daughters\u201d of Britain needing to be ready to fight.<\/p>\n<p>Retired Lieutenant Colonel Stuart Crawford told The Express that the idea of conscription \u201cshouldn\u2019t be dismissed out of hand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe British Army is the smallest it has been since Waterloo, and if we entered a major conventional war against Russia, then we don\u2019t have enough troops\u201d, he warned.<\/p>\n<p>Compared to Russia\u2019s over 1.1 million soldiers, Britain has approximately 141,300 full-time troops.<\/p>\n<p>And the UK spends just 2.4 percent of its national income on defence, compared to Russia\u2019s spending of 7%.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Army traditionally prefers to work on the principle that \u2018one volunteer is worth 10 pressed men\u2019.
