{"id":2568,"date":"2026-01-14T09:00:17","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T09:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=2568"},"modified":"2026-01-14T09:00:17","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T09:00:17","slug":"at-least-22-dead-as-crane-collapses-onto-moving-train-in-thailand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=2568","title":{"rendered":"At least 22 dead as crane collapses onto moving train in Thailand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-number-of-dead-is-expected-to-rise\">The number of dead is expected to rise<\/h2>\n<p>At least 22 people have been killed and about 80 others injured after a construction crane collapsed onto a moving train in Thailand.<\/p>\n<p>The train, carrying 195 passengers, derailed when a crane fell onto the moving train, which was en route from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani province this morning.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Footage shows the crane\u2019s shattered structure lying across massive concrete pillars atop the wreckage of the overturned train.<\/p>\n<p>Local police said that more bodies have yet to be recovered, per Sky News.<\/p>\n<p>A 54-year-old man, who was at the scene, described one of the carriages being torn in half by the impact.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cAt around 9 am, I heard a loud noise, like something sliding down from above, followed by two explosions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I went to see what had happened, I found the crane sitting on a passenger train with three carriages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe metal from the crane appeared to strike the middle of the second carriage, slicing it in half,\u201d per Metro.<\/p>\n<p>The incident occurred at a construction site, which is part of a $ 5.4 billion project backed by Beijing to build a high-speed rail network in\u00a0Thailand.<\/p>\n<p>It aims to connect Bangkok to Kunming in China through Laos by 2028 as part of China\u2019s vast \u2018Belt and Road\u2019 infrastructure initiative.<\/p>\n<p>The district police chief, Thatchapon Chinnawong, said 22 people have been confirmed dead and 80 more were injured.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are now asking the hospital to say how many people are in critical condition,\u201d Thatchapon said.<\/p>\n<p>Thailand has over 3,000 miles of railway, but the run-down state of the network drives people to favour travel by road.<\/p>\n<p>Industrial and construction site accidents have been a persistent issue in Thailand, where lax enforcement of safety regulations often results in deadly incidents.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- Bottom ad unit --><\/p>\n<p>    <!-- Custom pseudo content\/category -->\n            <\/div>\n<p>#dead #crane #collapses #moving #train #Thailand<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The number of dead is expected to rise At least 22 people have been killed and about 80 others injured after a construction crane collapsed onto a moving train in Thailand.
