{"id":1438,"date":"2025-09-02T17:17:53","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T17:17:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=1438"},"modified":"2025-09-02T17:17:53","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T17:17:53","slug":"judge-blocks-trumps-deployment-of-national-guard-in-california","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldpumpnews.com\/?p=1438","title":{"rendered":"Judge blocks Trump\u2019s deployment of National Guard in California"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Unlock the White House Watch newsletter for free<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__content-sign-up-topic-description o3-type-body-base\">Your guide to what Trump\u2019s second term means for Washington, business and the world<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"article__content-sign-up-iframe close\" scrolling=\"no\" id=\"signUpIframe\" data-prev-url=\"\/register\/in-article-sign-up?ft-content-uuid=05a6ea8b-3736-4c26-b982-8b34494bf8dc&amp;newsletter-id=65b8fec772badb00166eafc6\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div id=\"article-body\">\n<p>A US federal judge has blocked Donald Trump\u2019s administration from deploying the National Guard in California in a setback to the president\u2019s plans to put troops on the streets of cities across the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>San Francisco district judge Charles Breyer on Tuesday wrote that the government had violated the Posse Comitatus Act, which bars the US military from enforcing domestic law, when it placed the California National Guard under federal control in June to quash protests against the administration\u2019s immigration crackdown. <\/p>\n<p>The White House claimed the demonstrations qualified as a rebellion that blocked the enforcement of federal immigration law.<\/p>\n<p>Breyer\u2019s decision, which will take effect on September 12, prevents the government from using the National Guard or any military troops to \u201cexecute the laws\u201d, including arrests, riot control and interrogation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were indeed protests in Los Angeles, and some individuals engaged in violence,\u201d Breyer wrote in his decision. \u201cYet there was no rebellion, nor was civilian law enforcement unable to respond to the protests and enforce the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNevertheless\u2009.\u2009.\u2009.\u2009contrary to Congress\u2019s explicit instruction, federal troops executed the laws,\u201d he said. About 300 National Guard members remain stationed in California.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration is seeking to deploy troops across US cities due to what it claims are public safety emergencies, while seeking to crack down on \u201csanctuary cities\u201d \u2014 jurisdictions that limit or bar co-operation with federal immigration authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Trump last month deployed the National Guard in Washington and took control of the city\u2019s police force.
